TheCoderSchool is an after-school program designed to teach coding for kids ages 7-18. Rather than having software do the teaching, each student is assigned a Code Coach who provides coding instruction. Sessions are a low ratio of students to instructor, which allows focused attention while giving the students a mentor for idea sharing and collaboration. TheCoderSchool believes that learning to code teaches kids fundamental skills like logic, critical thinking and problem solving which are important across many disciplines.
The school’s philosophy is “the best way to learn to code is to do it the same way real developers do it – code something! Rather than mindless exercises or memorizing syntax, kids build custom apps with guidance from their Code Coach.” This way our students develop a love of coding and develop into great thinkers. TheCoderSchool teaches many different coding languages, from block-based programming in Scratch to text-based programming in Python, JavaScript, Java and more. The Code Coach chooses the most appropriate platform and programming language for each individual student.
TheCoderSchool also offers camps to introduce coding and encourage kids to continue to learn throughout the summer break. Camps include:
