Only an hour south of Sarasota you can hop on an open air swamp buggy and bounce your way through four different eco-systems. I liken our experience to a mini-Evergaldes trip. It's all the fun and education of the Everglades, without having to drive to the Everglades! Here is a little bit about our time on Babcock Ranch Eco Tour in Punta Gorda, FL~
The highlight of the trip was the several large groups of wild hogs that ran toward our tour bus providing an up close encounter. It was so amazing to observe the group with their piglets and get a chance to see how they live in the wild. Who doesn't squeal over piglets, I mean, COME ON?! They are so darn adorable! 
The Babcock Ranch tour actually takes place on Crescent B Ranch, a working cattle ranch, which meant there was no lack of interaction with their unique Florida Cracker Cattle, whom are not shy in the slightest. One of the better known of the herd, Rosie, gave us quite a show when she snuck half of body on the bus and helped herself to the animal treat bucket while the driver was out attending to business.
The eco tour was well planned out and since the 90 minute tour was guided, we were learning every step of the way. Our guide kept us in the know about the uniqueness of each ecosystem we visited and what animals to look for. One of the ecosystems we traveled to was the Telegraph Cypress Swamp where we saw tons of alligators, turtles and exotic birds.
Upon returning to the main center, our guide gave us a tour of the ranch's resident red hawk, Gypsy.
Our group wandered the grounds to explore the museum, gift shop and enjoyed a picnic lunch at their outdoor eating area- although there was a restaurant on site in case you go and don't want to pack food. I took in lots of "old Florida" charm hidden in every detail throughout the grounds, it was good to feel slightly away from home for a moment!
