Today, we are learning from Birth Designer expert, Chrissy Coney, RN, BSN, CLC. Chrissy has empowered countless families through their entire birth process. Here are her insightful answers to some of the most common questions from expecting families:
What is a Birth Designer, anyway?
My role as the Birth Designer is to provide the appropriate tools and guidance to expecting parents to allow them to actively participate in their labor and birth experience. There is so much more that goes into having a baby that most people don’t know about and it’s my job to teach them, provide resources, answer questions, and guide them to understand the amazing journey they are about to go through to become parents.
Why do I need a Birth Plan if nothing ever goes as planned?
The purpose of creating a personalized plan is so that the healthcare team, nurses, doctors, scrub techs, all understand what you value when it comes to birthing your baby. We know that labor doesn’t always go as planned, but your Birth Plan can guide us when helping you make decisions along the way and allowing you to have an amazing, unforgettable experience.
What is Chrissy’s favorite part of being a Birth Designer?
My favorite part of being a Birth Designer is bonding with the expecting parents and then seeing them after they have given birth. Their whole lives are changed by the tiny life they are holding in their arms when I see them in the hospital room. It’s always amazing and that’s why I love what I do.
