What exactly do pirates do when they set sail? What kind of mischief do they get into with other pirates? What songs do pirates belt out loud? We hopped aboard the Sea Gypsy to not only find out the answers to these questions, but to live them out! Hoisting a real pirates flag, looking for treasure, fighting off a real pirate threat with water cannons was all a part of the adventure!
No pirate would be ready for their duties without dressing like a pirate, thankfully there was a wardrobe of festive tutu's, authentic vests, and eye patches waiting for us to get the journey officially started. After we looked like proper pirates we set sail and the kids learned the rules of being a pirate. The fun was led by the most enthusiastic and fun pirates, Blimey and Captain Chum. I was really impressed with the quality of engagement Blimey garnered from the whole gang of kid pirates, they were truly living out the pirates life one activity at a time.
Kids worked as a team to find the treasure map hidden on board the ship, then we made the quest to Skull Lagoon. But alas, on our way to Skull Lagoon the kids spotted a floating message in a bottle, which contained a stern warning of an eminent threat of sneaky Pirate Pete. When your crew can't get passed Pirate Pete, you bust out the water cannons and attack!! And when kids get the chance to attack a rival pirate with water cannons, you know they get the job done without any hesitation!
After the much anticipated event of finding the treasure and digging to in enjoy their plunder, a fully satisfied gang of rowdy little pirates were happy to sail back home, knowing they would have quite the story to tell of their day in the life of a pirate. The minute my family and I returned to our car, my little one said, "Mommy, let's to that again!"
Does your child have dreams of becoming a pirate? What are you waiting for, join the Pirates of Cortez crew and watch their imagination come to life!
