From donated meals and homemade masks to random acts of kindness, there is no single way to say “thank you” to our front line workers. One local organization has just announced their creative plan to help serve the families of those who are doing so much to serve us.
Florida Studio Theatre is now offering free enrollment for its Summer Theatre Camp series to children of front line workers.
“We’re proud to be able to offer scholarships to students whose families have been affected by the current Pandemic,” shared Director of Education Josh Ford. “Theatre is about exploring and processing our own emotions and really hearing those of others. So, these are the times when Theatre is so essential to build on our awareness, to understand that we’re all in the same boat, and to practice empathy. It’s also a really fun and a great way to blow off steam. Families that are directly affected by the crisis are in particular need of all types of support.”
Starting June 8, Florida Studio Theatre will help budding young artists, ages 7-17, stretch their creativity through in-person camps on its downtown Sarasota campus. FST’s professional teaching artists will inspire creativity through acting, music, improvisation, and interactive storytelling. Rigorous care will be taken to ensure students’ safety by fully complying with CDC guidelines specifically laid out for Summer Camps on May 19. Camp days will be abbreviated, running from 10AM-2PM or 2-5PM each day, and classrooms will be limited to hold no more than 12 students at a time, so that all can appropriately social distance.
“This experience for my child was a life-changing event,” shared one Summer Camp Parent with FST.
“My daughter, Madison, has loved every minute of camp, and she longs to come back,” said past Summer camp parent, Stacey. “This has truly made our summer!”
Children’s Performing Arts Camp for students ages 7-12 has been running at FST for over 30 years. Students who attend this camp explore their own creativity through movement, improv, and acting. Professional artists collaborate with students to build honest, exciting, and expressive works of theatre.
FST’s Teen Performing Arts Camp for students ages 13-17 provides an outlet for young adults to express themselves with confidence and power as they create and perform their own original short plays on-site at FST. Combining elements of improvisation, movement, and acting, students will make exciting theatre alongside professional theatre artists.
FST’s Summer Theatre Camp runs in 3-week sessions all summer long. Enrollment ranges from $300-$375.
